My initial dream was to take a rustic journey more "off-road and off the beaten path" in my 1989 VW 16" Vanagon Syncro Westfalia with a 1.9 TDi engine. That dream has been "upgraded" and the reality now is in a 2017 Leisure Travel Van Unity 24UMB Mercedes diesel. One HUGE advantage is air conditioning! I'm going to attempt to limit its use as my new rig has 400 watts of solar with lithium but it takes shore power to run the A/C. So, part of my travel route will be to follow the cooler temperatures (60-80's) rather than heading straight into the 120 degree Arizona heat!
